Managing Clients

All senior executives should have exceptional client management skills.  We continue to be amazed at how many sizeable businesses do not have a good Client Relationship Management system.  From a relationship perspective it is important to establish good communication.  This means asking clients how they want to communicate and how often. Using the channel they prefer is a great way to start it.  You also need to personally get to know the client that you are working with.  You need to understanding their values, goals, struggles and interests.  Always sign a contract.  We often say that if it isn’t in writing, how can we prove that it was agreed to.  Having details in writing eliminates any miscommunication and makes it easier for both parties to understand the terms of the agreement.  Set realistic expectations by outlining them accurately at the beginning so that both parties are clear about the others expectations. Be transparent and honest.  Ask the client about their specific goals and what success looks like to them.  Think like the customer by considering what it feels like to be in their shoes.  Never be afraid to walk away.  And always have a client kick off meeting.
